"Okay, I know I'm representing law enforcement in this community, but.....this guy is NAKED. I could turn around and whack him where it hurts with my baton, but....that would mean actually looking at it. What to do? What to do? I'm running to my car. I definately need backup. I don't want to touch any part of this freak's body. Eeeooowww...I'd have to get a good look at his butt to even get the handcuffs on. Why did they allow me to patrol without a partner today, of all days? Stop chasing me!! Oh please, don't let him get close enough to touch me!!"

A baby asked God, 'They tell me you are sending me to earth tomorrow, but how am I going to live there being so small and helpless?' God said, 'Your angel will be waiting for you and will take care of you.'

The child further inquired, 'But tell me, here in heaven I don't have to do anything but sing and smile to be happy.' God said, 'Your angel will sing for you and will also smile for you. And you will feel your angel's love and be very happy.'

Again the child asked, 'And how am I going to be able to understand when people talk to me if I don't know the language?' God said, 'Your angel will tell you the most beautiful and sweet words you will ever hear, and with much patience and care, your angel will teach you how to speak.'

'And what am I going to do when I want to talk to you?' God said, 'Your angel will place your hands together and will teach you how to pray.'

'Who will protect me?' God said, 'Your angel will defend you even if it means risking its life.'

'But I will always be sad because I will not see you anymore.' God said, 'Your angel will always talk to you about Me and will teach you the way to come back to Me, even though I will always be next to you.'

At that moment there was much peace in Heaven, but voices from Earth could be heard and the child hurriedly asked, 'God, if I am to leave now, please tell me my angel's name.'

God said, 'You will simply call her, 'Mom.'

Chickadee In Your Palm

I absolutely adore these little chickadee songbirds. I love their call of, "Chick-a-dee-dee-dee-dee-dee-dee." Tiny, friendly, and beautifully detailed. Put some seed in your palm, wait until they find you, and you'll have little chickadees sitting on you....unless the pigeons find you first! Lol.

Not so many years ago, men did not even stay with their wives for support during labor and childbirth. Now they are involved in all aspects of the birthing and child-rearing process. It is lovely to see the heart of a man, rather than the masculine image they portray when away from their family.

90 Years ago TODAY:

World's Largest Artificial Non-Nuclear Explosion To Date

Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. December 6, 1917. Time: 9:04:35 Atlantic Standard Time.

A one minute video in the form of a movie, plus a black and white photo of the mushroom cloud.

Approximately 2,000 people were killed by debris, fires, and collasped buildings, and it is estimated that over 9,000 people were injured. THIS WAS THE LARGEST ARTIFICIAL EXPLOSION UNTIL THE FIRST ATOMIC BOMB TEST EXPLOSION IN 1945, and is still one of the WORLD'S LARGEST ARTIFICIAL NON-NUCLEAR EXPLOSIONS TO DATE.

All buildings and structures covering nearly 2 square kilometres along the adjacent shore of the exploded ship were obliterated. The explosion caused a tsunami in the harbour and a pressure wave of air that snapped trees, bent iron rails, demolished buildings, grounded vessels, and carried fragments of the Mont Blanc for kilometres.

The following day brought a blizzard that dropped over 40 cm (16 in) of snow on the community. Those who remained trapped in rubble, the injured. or those that had not been found or tended to, were often left in the bitter cold, adding to the tragic losses. Rescuers were forced to work through the storm, and many people who were left homeless found shelter wherever they could. Houses left standing did not have windows after the blast, leaving survivors to use tar paper, carpets and other available materials to seal their homes from the elements. The snow, however, did aid firemen in ensuring that any remaining fires were extinguished.

The explosion and ensuing fires left roughly 6,000 people homeless and without shelter, and 25,000 without adequate housing. The dockyard and industrial sector were in large part gone.

The explosion killed more Nova Scotians than World War I itself.

**Slightly off topic, but the elementary school my daughter attended in Halifax had its basement as a temporary morgue. Nobody goes down there now, and only old wooden desks and such are stored in that part of the school. It was, of course, far enough inland not to be very badly damaged.**

Halifax Explosion 1917

Synopsis:

"What do you think you're doing?" shouted Chief Clerk William Lovett as train dispatcher Vince Cleman turned back

towards the office. "We've only got a minute or two left! Anyone in the office won't stand a chance, and you're a married man with a family to think of!" But Vince Coleman was thinking about the passenger trains speeding towards the threatened harbour. He had to stop them.

In that moment of pure and selfless action, Coleman telegraphed his urgent warning. At precisely 9:06 on December 6, 1917, the worst man-made explosion ever [before the atomic bomb on Hiroshima] tore through Halifax, claiming 2,000 lives, including the life of Vince Coleman.

The Great War had brought prosperity to Halifax. The harbour bustled with convoys of men and materials bound for Europe. But on the evening of December 5, two ships' captains anxiously awaited departure. Aboard the Imo, a Belgian relief ship at anchor in the harbour, Captain From was annoyed that a late inspection had forced him to delay departure until morning.

Outside the harbour sat the French steamship Mont Blanc, its captain Aimé Le Medec awaiting morning access to the harbour and official clearance. Captain Le Medec had good reason to feel uneasy. Four days earlier his freighter had been loaded with tons of picric acid, TNT, gun cotton and benzol. The Mont Blanc was a floating bomb.

At 7:30 a.m., on December 6, the Mont Blanc began its slow entry into the harbour just as the Imo pulled up anchor. Forced to the wrong side of the channel by a steamer and tugboat, the Imo continued its improper course in direct line with the incoming Mont Blanc. The two ships sighted each other. There was a confusion of whistle blasts, misunderstood signals and, at 8:45 a.m., a disastrous collision.

As black smoke and flames rose from the Mont Blanc, crowds gathered on the Pier to watch the excitement. Factory workers, stevedores, mothers and children rushed to the best vantage points. Few people had any idea of the danger.

But one sailor who knew about the imminent explosion ran past the railway freight yards, warning Coleman and Lovett to clear out. Vince Coleman knew what was at stake when he ran back to tap out his crucial message. In the worst catastrophe in Canadian history, one man sacrificed his life to save 700 others.
