How do your hobbies/activities shift from winter to spring/summer?
In the winter, I tend to chat on the phone or computer. In the summer, chatting is done in person while walking with a friend or sitting out in the sun.
In the winter, you have to bundle up in warm clothes and perform the dreaded task of shovelling snow. Who knows what the windchill is?!? But in the spring/summer.....ahhhhhh. You can hike along trails and take walks while enjoying the sights and sounds of nature, and you won't get cold and have to return home.
In the fall/winter, you have to find a cozy spot inside your home in which to cuddle up and read a book. There will probably be distractions since everyone else will be cooped up with you! In the spring/summer, you can take a walk to a nice, secluded area or a large park...lean up against a tree or sit on a bench....and read your book while hearing the sounds of nature all around you as the sun and fresh air makes your skin feel refreshed and rejuvenates you.
I am ashamed to say that I live in this great country of Canada. Everyone knows to clear the snow off your back window when you're driving. The degradation of seeing the police car the only one on the road that is covered in snow. I sure hope the front windshield was cleared! What were these guys thinking? Do you suppose they don't have their seatbelts on, either??
SnowPeople aren't as tough as they used to be!
I have to agree with you there, RobbbieDobbbie. SnowPeople just don't seem to be able to withstand as much harshness as they used to be able to. Such devastating results are taking place. I don't know if this SnowPerson's girlfriend, in the photo below, will ever recover from his skydiving accident. He wasn't supposed to leave her until the Spring, correct? He should have jumped right back up. And then when Winter returned, he would have been back by her side and the romance would have grown to even higher levels. Such an incredible shame. What is the world coming to??
The harshness of winter hasn't arrived yet, and the world still is beautiful with fresh snow and active birds.
All too soon, these scenes will be replaced with packed snow and ice, drifts and driving winds. The sun may shine, but there will not be any heat felt from it. And the earth will be too cold to allow for any ground warmth.
As for now, this is a beautiful place to live.
Last winter was crazy with its warm weather in Nova Scotia, Canada. At this time last year, people were still outside jogging in shorts or walking without coats on (which is unheard of for December in Nova Scotia). There were buds on the trees, the migrating birds weren't leaving, the bears weren't hibernating, and we even still found grasshoppers!!! What in the world!!! We actually didn't get into a typical winter until about March of this year, and then it only lasted a month or two. Everyone says that it's global warming. I don't know, but I sure enjoyed not having months of ice and snow to battle!
Well, winter decided to become its normal season again. We had our first real snowfall the last couple of days. Lots of snow out there!! More now than when these pictures were taken. We'll be up quite a bit above freezing in the next few days, so it may turn out that we'll have another green Christmas again. It's hard to predict what the weather will be like anymore. We even were in the triple digits (Farenheit) this summer, which is not quite a normal occurrance for around here.
Here are some photos from our first real snowfall this season. Remember to click on the photo to enlarge but also to read the story behind it.
